A Fresh View

I don’t want to start this post with my negative feelings about pregnancy, but I really don’t know how else to start it so,

I don’t like being pregnant but,

I love being a mom. But,

I don’t think I’m good at pregnancy but,

I deeply wanted to be pregnant both times. My heart deeply ached for children and noticed every pregnant woman around and newborn babies!

My favorite part of pregnancy with Nathan was labor! If you know me, you know how true that really is! My contractions started at 12:00am, we got to the hospital at 6:00am, and I had him at 6:26pm. Best day of my life and pregnancy!

Ya there was pain in labor, but compaired to the 40 weeks of anxiety, uncomfortableness and worry, that pain was so over looked! I got so many compliments on how I was tolerating the pain and how relaxed I was in labor. Seriously that was due to years of TERRIBLE menstral cramps and the light at the end of this 40 week tunnel.

One of my biggest weaknesses is anxiety. One of the scariest topics for me is health.

This stems from a lot of things in childhood all the way to my dating years with Caleb and his brain tumor.

When I am pregnant, I don’t know what’s going on with my baby inside me. I don’t know if it’s healthy, I don’t know if something’s wrong, I don’t know anything. And my love for this human makes me only want to do my best for it, and I don’t know how.

When I’m pregnant I feel crazy. I feel overly tired. I feel lots of things I don’t like to feel. I live for the kicks and movements to let me know there is still a heartbeat happening.

I was scrolling on Pintrest and found this picture and quote I posted at the top.

“Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.” -Erma Bombeck

I was completely stopped in my tracks (or scrolling at this moment).

I’ve heard so many amazing women in my life share how they love being pregnant and the greatness in it, the beauty in it, and I just smile.

I see my body this way. My stretch marks, and my moved hips, the weight I have, are all signs I made a baby! I’m so proud of my body and love it way more now then I did when I was a size 2! I was in no hurry to lose baby weight. I didn’t exercise really at all after Nathan. I lived for naps with him and cuddles. I videoed probably his first three months haha. When was there time to work out that wouldn’t take away time from him being a baby? I couldn’t miss any moments of his first year! So we went on walks and jogs and that was about it. But I love my body now! It has done so much and provided me with an amazing gift from God!

But,

I didn’t feel that way about actually being pregnant. Or even being pregnant today.

It truly is the worry and anxiety I have of the unknown.

So then I go into Faith in this topic. Oh the meaning of Faith to me right now has huge weight. Faith is believing in the unseen.

As “A Walk to Rememeber” says, “[it’s] like the wind, I can’t see it, but I can feel it”. What a great movie.

Where is my faith?! God has this baby! I can feel her, but I can’t see her.

Then this quote I read on Pintrest just slapped me in the face! Pregnancy and Childbirth is a huge deal! If you have never been pregnant or pushed a baby out, then hug your mom and thank her and believe me that it’s a big deal!

The concept of becoming pregnant and what happens in pregnancy and how a baby grows from cells to 8 pounds in 40 weeks is remarkable! How could you not believe in God after seeing a miracle of a baby!

I am 20 weeks pregnant right now, and although I don’t LOVE my energy gone, random cravings, random pains, and peeing every five seconds, I am really going to try to remember that I am assisting God in a miracle, and I have the honor to grow a human.

I just need this fresh view and fresh perspective in my sight!

Target Baby Registry

Oh hey there free bag of AWESOME travel size and full size samples, coupons, and goodies! Way to go Target!

So months ago I started a baby registry on Target.com

We have everything we truly needed, but there were a couple things we could afford to get this pregnancy that I didn’t want to forget about, like a Sophie the Giraffe and a humidifier. We also needed another hamper and some more burp rags.

A couple months after starting this registry of 10 items I got a coupon on the mail! It was a 20$ gift card off any purchase from my own registry!! Um hello a pack of diapers or wipes or in my case a new Sophie haha.

I went in to Target, gave them the 20$ coupon with my printed registry and they gave me an actual 20$ gift card!!

This past week I went into Target to register for tons of fun girly items since we now know we have a princess on the way. I don’t need anything, but I would love some pink crib sheets and pink burp rags, and head band and shoes! Oh have you seen little girl shoes??!

It was so easy to register this time! With Nathan we were given a huge gun to use that could be a pain. This time I was given an iPhone and scanned a full registry in less than an hour with my toddler in a cart!

At the end, I got this bag of goodies!! Way better than the little bag from 2 years ago!

So fun! So awesome! Do yourself a favor, and register!

Here’s a look inside the bag I got after registering:

Can we just talk about how cute this little bag is?! I can totally use this on the go for snacks to the park or total other usage that I haven’t even thought of. But I love it!

I’ve never used bottles before, but this is a pretty big sample bottle I got! 2 years ago they were the smallest little bottles.

This is the only brand of binkie that Nathan would take. Although I didn’t give him a binkie till he was almost 5 months, it’s nice to have this one! They can be pricy!

You can’t go wrong with a travel size of body wash! And this stuff last a long time!!

These were my favorite nursing pads to use and I used the storage bags like crazy also! So excited for these!!!

Then The Honest Company gives me two size 1 diapers and a little pack of wipes!! Love this!!!! Love their stuff!

Pampers gave me the cutest satin pouch with a newborn diaper, wipes, coupon and information about how many diapers a baby really uses. I love pampers! They fit Nathan the best!

Have you ever used a boogie wipe! They are amazing!!! So nice to have for when I running nose starts up. The sample is attached to a coupon!

I’ve never used these products but I love free samples!

I have never purchased formula but have been told Enfamil is the way to go. They give you lots of coupons for formula and Target gave me a lovely coupon to Starbucks!!

What a lovely gift bag!

Boy or Girl?!

Two days from being 20 weeks pregnant I got my anatomy ultrasound. I had to drink two water bottles and couldn’t use the restroom for an hour! On top of that, the office was running 15 minutes late! I still feel like that’s terrible. Don’t run ultrasounds with full bladder pregnant women and be behind schedule! But anyways,

I laid on the bed with my head next to the computer screen. I couldn’t see the screen super well, but I was waiting to see a little pee pee. The lady took tons of pictures of the spine and then let me go to the bathroom.

When I came back in she said we could now find out the gender. As she started the ultrasound again she said, “oh it’s much better to see with your empty bladder!” Are you kidding me??! Don’t say that out loud!! I was just in so much pain and I didn’t even need to be!

I wasn’t even looking at the screen and she said, “it’s a girl!” And I said, “seriously?”. I was in shock.

The moment I found out I was pregnant I told Caleb it was a girl. I came up with my girl names and that was it. Then around 16 weeks I read my pregnancy weekly journal from Nathan and everything was the same. I instantly then assumed I was wrong and I was having another boy!

I was talking to my best friend one day about having a girl. I was talking myself into having another boy (which I would absolutely love) because I didn’t want to get my hopes up of having a little girl and it never happening.

I wasn’t ready for the lady to tell me I was having a girl. Four hours later, I’m still in shock and think it’s to good to be true.

Caleb saw that it was a girl on the screen when the lady was taking pictures of the spine. I however was concentrating on holding my bladder together!

As the appointment went on, for no joke an hour and a half, Caleb and Nathan had left to go walk around and the lady tried to get my precious princess to corporate. The lady needed a profile picture and a belly picture which my little girl was not allowing!

The lady finally gave up and made me eat some of her sees chocolate to try to get the baby to move around haha. I loved that free chocolate. It totally worked and we got the pictures we needed.

I’m a little nervous for this already stubborn miss! Haha I was cracking up because this appointment for Nathan was maybe a max of 20 minutes! We even had a doctor come in and go over everything with us to tell us all was perfect. This time I have to wait till my regular Doctors appointment for her to let me know if there is any problems.

I’m having a girl….

It hasn’t sank in yet….

I’m very excited and very emotional….

Nothing will take the amazing bond I have with my baby boy away, and the amazing dream of having a little girl can’t be compared to either.

I feel so lucky to have one of each!

Potty Training Day 3

Woke up with a full pull up and still went a little on the potty before breakfast. We had a poo poo accident, and he got upset today about it. He kept asking me to clean it up, but I wanted to clean him up first.

He did want cookies today, but not every time. He is also going longer periods of time between trips to the potty.

Woke up from nap dry and went pee pee the most he’s ever gone in the potty!!

We also went to Target today. He could have gone a couple of drops, but when we got home his pull up felt dry and he went pee pee lots on his potty! That was very exciting!

We didn’t have any accidents in the afternoon but as we got to after dinner, Nathan got tired. He had a couple accidents playing but he also made it to the potty to go poo poo!

He totally understands the concept of going to the bathroom on his potty! He goes in there by himself and goes and yells, “Yay!!” Then comes to me and tells me to go look haha!

We really worked on wearing underwear today! Keeping his underwear around his ankles while sitting on the potty.

Today was another successful day! I feel like tomorrow will be even greater! I am very tired tonight! Potty training is on your feet, go go go all day long. It’s so much cleaning up! He went pee pee in his potty but it shot out somehow so I had to clean the whole bathroom floor! I have the highest respect for all the parents who have been before me and potty trained!! Way to go!

Potty Training Day 2

The start was rough. His pull up was full from either over night or because I didn’t get up and get him to the potty in time after he woke up. He made himself tinkle in the potty but asked for a banana instead of a cookie which was perfect because it was breakfast time.

After breakfast he didn’t want to go. Maybe he didn’t need to go yet after overnight and his breakfast hadn’t digested yet or he didn’t want to haha.

Right after breakfast I was loading the dishes into the dishwasher and Nathan said, “ut-oh mommy. Poo poos”. I looked and he had gone a little poop on the kitchen floor. I told him it was okay and we ran to the potty where he finished going! He went a lot. Then we went to flush it and he got really mad and me and cried! He didn’t want his poo poos down the potty! I felt so bad and tried not to laugh because he was so hurt. He was also concerned about me cleaning the little poop in the kitchen. So we cleaned that up and moved on with our morning.

He didn’t go pee pee for about twenty minutes after breakfast which compared to yesterday was a really long time!! He didn’t want the cookie, so that didn’t work as an incentive, so I thought of his favorite thing! The vacuum! If he went pee pee he got to vacuum. Well guess who got on the potty and went pee pee right away?! That’s right, Nathan did! He didn’t go very much but I felt better that he went.

Today I locked him in my bathroom with me so I was able to get ready. Yesterday I brushed my teeth and that was all. He never had an accident in there.

I had bible study this morning so potty training continued at my moms house. She said he did a great job and never had an accident.

This afternoon he had a small accident of poop on the tile again, but not any pee pee accident. He is also much better at flushing his poo poo down the toilet.

Today he is very much into washing his hands. We get a thick book, put that on the potty and he can almost reach the water. This afternoon washing hands has turned into a potty incentive!

Today he liked wearing underwear. He went longer periods of time with out running to the potty and had less accidents, so underwear today were helpful for him to not be naked all the time.

Tonight he is going into the bathroom all by himself and going pee pee! I love that his potty sings to him because then I can hear when he does all by himself and still give him lots of praise! He had a very small accident on his toy car. I caught him randomly tearing off toliet paper and running. I followed him and he cleaned up his little accident!

Bath time is a great break for me! Cleaning his little potty and being overly excited all day is tiring so I need a small break. Letting him play in the bath has been really helpful to just let me sit and breath!

Nathan was naked until right before bedtime. He doesn’t like putting on a pull up, but I just remind him when he wakes up he can be naked again haha. I am very impressed with this little boy and day 2! Potty training keeps you busy for sure and has made the last couple days fly by!

Have a great night!!

Potty Training Day 1

If you want to know how I introduced the potty to Nathan, it’s in a previous post: https://kymberlyhudson.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/starting-the-potty/

When I woke up today potty training was not on my mind. My best friend had sent me just a day or so before, pictures of her son in underwear and I truly thought in my head, “I don’t have the energy to potty train yet”. So I really haven’t had potty training on my mind! My plans today were to go to the park, go to recycling, anything to keep us busy. I want this week to go fast because Friday we find out if baby number 2 is a boy or girl. So time is moving slow for me these days.

After breakfast Nathan was very upset about his diaper and kept asking for it to be off. He had gone poop and was not enjoying it on him.

I changed his diaper and then he said, “mommy potty”. Caught off guard I took him to his potty in the bathroom and he went pee pee in his potty!!! Then he asked for a cookie lol.

Nathan is allergic to eggs so he doesn’t get many sweets. I’m not against that so I also don’t go out of my way to make him eggless cookies or brownies. He hates eating fruit and veggies so I don’t want to pour tons of sugar into him when he’s not eating the good stuff. But one shopping day I picked up some Nilla Wafers that are egg free.

I’m breaking these cookies into tons of pieces! Some times he gets a sliver haha. He can make himself go potty just to have a cookie! If I gave him whole cookies he would have ate over 20 cookies before 1130am!

I learn I needed today:

1. Pull ups for nap time, or if you don’t want to do pull ups I read that puppy pads tapped to the bed are great, just don’t go back to diapers.

2. A potty. We have the fisher price one. There is tons! His sings to him and tells him “yay” after he goes, which he absolutely loves!! I picked it based on it was the only one at Target that day haha. It works perfect! He’s old enough now to push himself back a little on it so his pee pee doesn’t hit the front of the potty and squirt every where. The seat also comes off and can go on the regular potty and the potty can be a step for the sink or getting on the regular potty. It’s simple and cheap and works for us! But many bloggers have done research and found others that they really recommend!

3. Big boy underwear!!! In October we got him snoopy and Avenger underwear. He does love snoopy, I got the Avenger ones because of the three pack at Target was cheaper haha. I am very much about price and practicality haha. Today however he did not want to wear underwear! So I called my mom and she picked up some Mickey underwear! Well lately out of no where (he doesn’t watch tv) he is all about Mickey! So that made a huge difference! They have plain colors or just white if your child really doesn’t care.

4. The incentive, Nilla Wafers.

5. Your excitement. Be ready to be your most jumping, enthusiastic self! Nathan literally jumps up and down with me and we clap and say yay every time and run and get a cookie! Every time is like the first time! Always exciting!

6. Wipes, towels, Clorox wipes! For those accidents and when he jumps off the potty and drips a little pee on the floor!

7. Water or liquid to drink. My kid will only drink water.

I recommend asking your friends, reading many blogs and even listening to strangers tell you what worked for them. Every kid is different and when they are ready to potty train is different. Don’t ever be discouraged! It’s a learning process for them and you! They are learning how their body works and really so are you! I’ve learned that Nathan can make himself go just to get a cookie, but if he starts playing, he can’t hold it longer than 10 minutes. So I know to have him go potty before that 10 minutes arrives!

Don’t be discouraged by accidents and make sure they know it’s not a big deal! They can go on the potty next time! Nathan didn’t get upset over an accident, he would tell me, “ut-oh” and run to the potty haha.

It’s day 1 so I’m still learning!! But I didn’t want to forget any of what has happened! Good luck!!!

It’s a high of 75 today, so he’s running around naked and loving it!
By the end of the night he was going into the bathroom and going pee pee all by himself. I was cooking dinner at one point and heard his potty sing to him and ran in and was super excited!

Nathan didn’t love wearing underwear today. And as many times as we went to the potty, sometimes they got in the way. It can be a lot to pull them down quick when they are trying to make it to the potty on time.

He only had once accident from 3pm- to bedtime!

He was naked until 7:58pm and bedtime is 8pm. It was a very long day but so worth it!!!

Starting the Potty

When I write I can go into much detail and have to constantly tell myself to, “wrap it up” haha. So writing about potty training was a really long blog so I wanted to break it up.

In this post I’m going to give you a little back story in how we started introducing the potty! So here it is….

Today is March 1st. I noticed Nathan was interested in the potty this past October. So five months ago we got him a potty and underwear. He was 17 months. He caught on right away. I thought he was going to pick it up and we would be done with diapers. I’m not sure why we slowly stopped on October, but a couple weeks later I was hit with some morning sickness and diapers were my best friend.

Nathan is allergic to eggs so he doesn’t get many sweets. I’m not against that so I also don’t go out of my way to make him eggless cookies or brownies. He hates eating fruit and veggies so I don’t want to pour tons of sugar into him when he’s not eating the healthy stuff easily. But one shopping day I picked up some Nilla Wafers which are egg free.

I had been reading tons of blogs on potty training boys and asking all my friends what worked for them! Many told me an incentive was really important so my gut told me that these Nilla Wafers were my ticket to no diapers.

Most nights before bath time we have Nathan sit on the potty and try to go. If he does, he gets a cookie and if he doesn’t it’s okay. I talk to him as I go potty (which being pregnant is all the time). I talk to him about his body parts and when he toots. I felt it was important for him to know key terms and what was happening to his body.

These are tips I was given or read that I really liked and stuck with me. Not everything here I am doing because I’m rolling with how Nathan is learning and what is best for him. But I want to remember these tips for the future. Maybe they will help my other kids one day!
Books- get some potty training books and read to the child about it.

Modeling going potty with a bear or doll how to wear underwear and sit on the potty. You can ever have a surenge behind the bear or doll and “make the bear or doll go pee pee”.

I’ve read in blogs that boys under 3 are hard to potty train. Nathan is still 1, so every kid is really different.

I’ve also read it can take up to 3 days of being at home all day to really get it. I can’t follow this because we have so many plans every week. So I’ll keep you posted with what happens!

I’ve read about sticker charts and incentives of going places. Nathan doesn’t really get the chart. His little mind is all about right in that moment!

I really wanted to do most of these but I wasn’t prepared to start potty training. I went with what Nathan was ready for and he was ready before me!

I’ve loved reading what moms have done. It’s made me get a large amount of ideas and form to what I’m doing today!
